Arts Counselling for Adults in Forest Row

“Support for anxiety, low mood, loss, life changes and feelings that are difficult to put into words”

Are you struggling with feelings of anxiety or low mood? Perhaps there’s a feeling that something isn’t quite right, though you may not know what is wrong. Or perhaps you have a specific challenge or life circumstance you need support with, such as a bereavement, job or other loss, you’ve relocated to a new area, divorced or separated? Maybe there was a traumatic event that has been too difficult to articulate? Sometimes we become overwhelmed with feelings that we don’t know how to process.

When adult life feels difficult to navigate

Arts counselling can help by providing a space to sift through the emotions, looking at those at the top and those that might lie beneath. By placing our feelings on paper, even with a single colour or gesture, we can externalise them and see them from new perspectives. Depending on your circumstances, we might gently explore earlier experiences that have shaped coping strategies and patterns. We might look back to re-evaluate past events, then look forward with new awareness.

Support with loss, change and difficult life experiences

I can support this process through a blend of talking, creative activities and/or Sandplay therapy. Many adults enjoy wet-on-wet painting or pastel work to relax and explore what needs to be felt. We might work on specific themes and projects or allow spontaneous self-expression with art media processes. For minor issues, we could focus on your general wellbeing (please also see the Art for Wellbeing section) or there may be more specific issues or concerns to explore. Regardless of the depth of your challenges, all creative activities are invitations to go deeper and be guided in the process. Together, we can address anything you bring to the session.
